For over 15 years I have been involved with therapeutic riding. In that time, I have had the priviledge to coach a paralympic contender as well as riders with a wide range of abilities. I am the Head Instructor at North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association ( NFTRA). I have served on both the BCTRA and CanTRA boards, and am certified with CanTRA as an examiner and a coach.
Helping riders with physical disabilities has made me very aware of the challenges that face every rider in alligning the human body, firing core muscles and learning to utilize relaxation and controlled tension to influence the horse.
My 40 plus years of riding background has included Pony Club, eventing, endurance riding, trail riding, and most recently dressage. In exploring dressage, I have taken lessons and clinics from Leslie Steele, Christine Jacobson, Mary Longden, Jan Jollymour, Derek Huget, Jill Geise, Jacqui Oldham, Ali Buccanan, Jaimie Irwin, Karen Brain, Jane Savoie, Frances Weeks, Ashleigh Luca, Bruce Fowler, Monique Fraser, Joni Lynn Peters, and Nancy Tapley. Each one of these trainers has added something which I have been able to interpret into my riding and coaching. In addition, I have been fortunate to be able to learn from some very talented horses. Along the way I have completed certification as a Equine Canada Coach 2 specializing in dressage.
Helping riders and horses connect and feel that special elusive "throughness" is what motivates and rewards me. I love to ride and I love to coach.
